International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are coming this year and will change the way Canadian banks report their financial results. To better understand the broad impacts of these new requirements on the banking industry, the Canadian Bankers Association hosted an IFRS Investor Education Event on January 10, 2011.
The session was moderated by Tricia O’Malley, past chair of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board and former member of the International Accounting Standards Board. It also included a presentation from Jason Boggs, a partner and IFRS specialist from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Toronto, and a panel discussion with senior finance executives from the Canadian banks.
